JULY BIRTHSTONE - RUBY

By Linda Lopez

The gleaming ruby should adorn,
All those who in July are born.
For thus they'll be exempt and free,
From Lover's doubts and anxiety.
~Gregorian Birthstone Poems~

The Ruby has been used to symbolize passion, lust and true love, devotion and strength of will. Long prized for its deep firey mystique and links to legend and lore, the ruby still finds its way into velvet boxes as gifts to adorn delicate fingers.
Ranging in colors from pale pinks, deep reds to still darker burgany, the natural ruby
can be nicely set with any precious metal, and pairs well with most other colored stones.
For those who would like to enjoy the same spiritual benefits from other natural stones, I would like to suggest carnelian or even a Mexican fire opal in reds and oranges. You will find that these two stones will also bring out the inner passions, fidelity or loyalty of the wearer's character. I find these two stones equally beautiful whether beaded, (strung as beads, faceted or in cabachon cut). For the Carnilan check into the "Pigeons' blood". Found in Isreal, it runs from cherry red to blood red.
The Mexican Fire opals usually come with a full spector of colors however, when shopping at gem stores, ask to see those in oranges and reds. I think you will be quite pleased.
Enjoy.
