AUGUST BIRTHSTONE - PERIDOT

Wear a peridot of for thee,
No conjugal fidelity,
The August born without this stone,

Of all the poems I find this one the most ominous.
Can't imagine that one born in August must wear it to remain faithful though. Word to the wise. If you plan on giving your love a peridot for this purpose, it is said that it must be set with GOLD to make it work. (Must've been a jeweler that came up with that one.)
Of course I wouldn't mind wearing the beautiful Peridot. Wonderful shades of lime green, from yellow-green to twinkling lime. Yummy.
The Peridot is one of the few extraterrestrial gemstones in that some come from metorites called Pallasites. It is also the first gemstone to be found on another planet. In 2003 peridots were discovered on Mars.
Hawaiians believe the Peridot is the goddess Pele's tears. Cleopatra was reported to have an extensive and fine collection of Emeralds,they were in truth predominately peridots.
Besides imbuing the wearer with the abiltiy to remain faithful, the Peridot was favored as a curing stone. It was thought to cure asthma, fever and to reduce thirst, Ancient physicians gave it in powdered form as medicine or had their patients drink from a Peridot goblet to add in the potency of their other medicines and elixirs.
I find this gem mystical and fun to wear.
Alternate stone to wear for August are; Carnelian, Moonstone, Sardonyx and Topaz.
Healing, intuition, love, fidelity, health, all the same energies can be strengthened for the wearer of these stones also.
